CUSTOMER NEEDS:

  • Providing workers with a restraint system in order to avoid falling into one of the three circular settling basins from the catwalks placed above them.
  • In this case the restraint system was not meant to protect workers from fall from height, in fact basins were placed at about 1 metre above ground level. However, due to their familiarity with the workplace, workers were more likely to accidentally fall because of a lack in caution while performing their duties.
  • There is a great number of biological and mechanical risks inside a settling basin: raw sewage coming from inlet zone is full of harmful pollutants; moreover other chemicals are added to clarify it by means of coagulation and flocculation treatments which allow grouping particles together into flocs of a bigger size that will eventually settle on the tank floor.
  • The rakes in charge of removing settled particles collected into the sludge zone could also injure workers who might fall into the tanks.
  • Ensuring safety for maintenance works on sewers, drains and biogas digester inside the water filtration plant.

OUR SOLUTION: Rigid rail

A flexibile, versatile and yet rigid (deflection = 0) system was what the customer need: a rail system was the answer. Sicurpal installed a rigid rail lifeline to work on the edges of settling basins and on the steep slope of the biogas digester, where our engineer team suggested to work on ropes.
